Video Transcript:

There are two main ways that you may be asked to post to a forum in Moodle. The first way is to create your own post within a forum. The second way is to reply to a post from your instructor. We will walk through both ways.

The first way to post to a discussion forum is to create your own post within the forum. To do that, you will navigate to the forum within your course and click on it. Be sure to read through any directions from your instructor which may outline expectations such as a minimum word count or how many replies you must make on the forum to your classmates. When you are ready to post to the forum, click the "Add a new discussion topic" button. You will need to give your forum post a subject and then you'll add your response in the message area. Then select, "Post to forum". You will see that your post was successfully added and that you have thirty minutes to edit your post.

The other way that you may be asked to post to a forum it to reply to a post already started by your instructor. To do that, you'll navigate to the forum in your course and click on it. Then, you'll find the post from your instructor and click on that. You'll read through your instructor's post and when you're ready, you'll click the "Reply" button. You can write your response and click the "Submit" button when you are ready. If you need additional editing options, you can click on "Advanced". This will expand the text editor where you will see additional editing buttons. And then, when you are ready, you will click "Post to forum".
