All about the Quiz Module & Question Bank

Every course has a Question Bank, which is a repository of all questions created in (or imported into) that course. If you add questions to a Quiz, they're also added to the Question Bank. You can also add questions directly into the Question Bank. 

Some instructors prefer to build their questions in the Question Bank before adding them to a Quiz. This approach takes slightly longer, but comes with several advantages, including the ability to:

• Organize your questions into categories. 
• Develop banks of questions that can later be randomly drawn into a Quiz. 
• Re-use questions across multiple quizzes. 

Accessing the Question Bank

How you access the course Question Bank will depend on the theme your site is using. 

Boost

1. Click the Gear icon in the top-right corner to open the Actions menu
2. Select "More…" at the bottom of the menu
3. Click Question Bank or Questions on the next page

Fordson

1. Click the Gears icon in the top-left corner to open the Course Management Panel
2. Click Question Bank under the “Question Bank” heading

Creating Categories in the Question Bank

1. Open the Question Bank
2. Click the Categories tab
3. Scroll down to the “Add category” heading
4. (Optional) Select the Parent category 
• The default category is the course itself
5. Enter a Name
6. (Optional) Enter Category info
• Useful for adding context for other instructors, especially if this question bank will be shared
7. Click the Add category button

Adding Questions to the Question Bank

1. Open the Question Bank
• Skip to Step 4 if you are not using categories in the Question Bank
2. Click the Select a category menu 
3. Select the intended Category for this question
4. Click the Create a new question… button
5. Select a question type from the list
6. Click the Add button
• You can also double-click the name of the question type

Adding Question Bank Questions to a Quiz

1. Open the quiz
2. Click the Edit quiz button
3. Click Add on the right side of the page
4. Select from question bank
5. Click the Select a category menu 
6. Select the category you are pulling questions from
• The panel will refresh when you select a category

Adding a single question

1. Click the + icon to the left to the question name

Adding multiple questions

1. Check the box to the left of each question you’re selecting
2. Click the Add selected questions to the quiz button

Adding all questions in a Question Bank category

1. Check the box at the top of the list of questions to select all questions
2. Click the Add selected questions to the quiz button
