The Quiz in Moodle:

  • The Quiz activity allows the instructor to design and build quizzes using an array of question types, including multiple choice, true-false, short answer, and essay questions. These questions are stored in the Question Bank, and can be re-used in different Quizzes.
  • Quizzes can be configured to allow multiple attempts. Each attempt at a question is automatically marked, and the instructor can choose whether to give feedback and/or show the correct answers. This setting is found in the Grade section of the Quiz settings.

There are several ways to give feedback to students: on each question or overall. The quiz module can display feedback and scores at different times during the quiz, using the review options in the Quiz settings.

Feedback

A single quiz can automatically select random and/or specific questions from different categories of questions. You change this setting in the Question Behavior section.

The quiz settings allow different display methods. They can randomize both the order of questions, and the order of question responses.

The instructor can determine the number of questions displayed on each page of the Quiz. We recommend no more than five questions per page. This helps mitigate lost work if the learner's browser crashes or internet dies mid-attempt.

Creating a new quiz is a two-step process. In the first step, you create the Quiz environment. This includes setting options that affect when and how the Quiz is administered to learners. Some of these settings were covered above. In the second step you add questions to the Quiz. There are a three ways to add questions into a Quiz. We'll cover each in this Lesson.
