4.2. Rating Forums

Ratings is a legacy grading option for Forums. We currently recommend using the Whole Forum Grader instead. If you choose to use ratings, you can configure the forum to allow ratings to be given by just the instructor, or the instructor and students. Only instructors can rate items by default. 

Enabling Ratings in a Forum

1. Edit the Forum
2. Click the Ratings heading to expand it
3. Select an aggregate type (how the ratings will be calculated into the learner's final grade)
   
4. Select a point value
   • We strongly recommend not using scales for this step. 

Once ratings have been enabled within the Forum’s settings, a corresponding grade item will appear in the gradebook. Ratings will appear as a drop-down menu below learner posts. Use the menu to select a value for your rating.
